The Roman Military, No Author, Romans Military

The Romans military was massive. It had many people who were able to demolish anybody in their path. The Romans were unstoppable from their great numbers and their weaponry. The author in the article was trying to say no matter who stood in their path they would break through them. There is no author but he is obviously not a primary source. He seems reliable because h is stating facts rather than his opinions.

They copied the Etruscans hoplite tactics, who had learned them from the Greeks and organized annual armies of citizen soldiers” People do not know that the Romans copied their lifestyle and military tactics. People believe that they learned from the greeks. They would put the people who are the most poor in the front so it would not make a difference if they die or not. In the back of the pack they had rich people who were usually on horses and had more armor. The richer you were the farther back so if you fought you would have a better chance to live because you are more important. In 483 BC, a Gaelic warlord and chieftain named Brennus invaded the newly formed republic. The entire Roman army was wiped out and the city sacked. “ In the start of the roman empire they were not good. People attacked them all the time. Brennus came and destroyed the city and also slaughtered the men and abused the women. People would take thousands of pounds of gold when they attacked another place.

The men would also rotate the first two lines consisting of about 120 people would go in and wear the enemy out and if they live they would go back and rest while the next two would go into battle and challenge the exhausted enemies. The Romans started to get strategy by allowing them to” The Romans learned to defeat the elephants by using their pila.” The pila was a spear that people would use to throw them into the elephant in all places. They learned how to separate the enemies and attack them making it simpler on the soldiers. But what other ways does the Roman society work?

  1. I liked the fact that you started off with a broad topic and slimmed it out. I had a question: Were the greeks better than the Romans in terms of war? I found it very interesting that you stated they could demolish anything in their way. I feel like you can remove the restating of your evidence and just limit it to your analysis, overall great job.
