Where and How did Gymnastics Originate?

Source: www.haikudeck.com

Gymnastics is a well-known sport around the world, and when people think of gymnastics, they usually think of the Olympics. One thing many people don’t know about gymnastics is where and how it really started. Although many people think that gymnastics started with women, the origins began with soldiers for war. The author is unknown, but the source is reliable because it is a website that focuses on sports. It also mentions other resources in the article, which makes it seem reliable. Gymnastics is a popular sport many people know of today, but what most people don't know where it actually originated.
At first, I had no idea where gymnastics started, but my original guess was somewhere in Europe. It turns out I was somewhat correct. In the article, History of Gymnastics, the author informs us that “Gymnastics formally originated in ancient Greece, where it was used by soldiers to get ready for war.”  I was surprised when I read that it was used by soldiers, because when I think of the gymnasts from a long time ago, I usually think of the women, not the men. As I read on, I realized how gymnastics was actually very similar to the training men did for war. They tumble, jump, mount, and run. The mounts and dismounts were used when the soldiers would ride horses, and jumping and running were important for escaping from enemies. Eventually in Greece, “gymnastics became a vital component of Greek education.” History of Gymnastics I found this interesting because gymnastics isn’t a sport for everyone, but they made every kid do it. Later on, almost all the schools taught math, music, and gymnastics to all the students, so it became a part of everyday lifestyle.

Future Research Question: I will continue researching and next, I will talk about when gymnastics actually started and the people involved in making it the spot it is today.
