Have you ever wondered what kind of Religions did the Japanese have? Japan has two major religions, Buddhism and Shinto. Buddhism is the type of religions that came from the influence of China and India. Buddhism came around the 6th century. However, Shinto, the second religion in Japan, is the oldest religion. Link to the religions Today, most people in Japan don’t practice these religions as much as the people in the past, but some majority of people in Japan will consider themselves as Buddhists. Some other people might consider themselves as Shinto or both. Most tradition people practice the religion of their choice. Most people, that you might meet, in local festivals will most likely have a religion background. Let’s talk about how people in japan deal with religion today. Most people in Japan don’t preach much as people do in the west. The religions that are practiced are mostly in private family affairs. So most people won’t even notice that this person that you are friends with in Japan is religious. Most Japanese people don't really consider themselves religious and they rarely claim themselves to be. Yeah, let’s just say that. More about the Japanese religion Let me add a few more things. Let’s talk about the difference between a shrine and a temple. Temples are for people to worship Buddhism. The shrines, on the other hand, are Shintos. People often go to the shrines to pray. They can pretty much pray for anything(I think so anyways). In Japan, there are lucky charms that other people use to get good luck. There are different kinds such as getting good luck for the exam, protection, and so on. There are many other religious practices such as religion ceremony but I don't want to get carried away. I bet I already gave you, people, the main picture and idea about Japanese religion. For my next update, What do Japanese people eat at a daily bases?
