In April of 2014, India declared a third gender called eunuchas were legal and deserved basic human rights, but, still won’t let homosexuality be legal. This new gender is being classified as not male or female but transgender. A major reason of why transgender people is because there are epics and other biblical stories about transgender figures. This third gender is trying to be accepted into society that they have put it as its own box on government forms.
Also, the Indian government has made it illegal to discriminate on eunuchas and have said that, “Recognition of transgenders as as a third gender is not a social or medical issue, but a human rights issue.” In 2009 being gay was declared as legal but then that law was revoked four years later. There have now been laws set saying it is illegal to discriminate on transgenders but there is nothing for the protection of the lgbtq+ community. In fact, the lgbtq+ community was deemed as untouchables. People are still hopeful for new laws protecting all citizens of India.
