What is out of the government's hand when it comes to economy?

On a global scale, energy is an issue that will follow governments and people wherever they go. Energy is a problem that affects the economy in a massive way, that the government can hardly control. They can’t affect energy, however they can affect how they achieve and sustain their energy. The government tries to regulate energy by being pro-renewable, but it fails as modern day society attempts to use non-renewable as it is cheaper and easier to use. The source is National Geographic and states the issue on global scale. This makes it more reliable as it’s stating everyone has this problem and National Geographic is known for addressing global issues.

The economy and energy is closely linked. They both go hand and hand, they both increase and decrease at the same time. According to National Geographic, “There is a clear relationship between economic stress, and the carbon markets. The carbon market has been in dire straits since the 2008 financial breakdown.” Since carbon markets essentially regulate energy as most of the United States’ energy is obtained from nonrenewable resource, one of the factors that economy is dependant on is energy flow. Since the carbon market is staying down, the author is using a chain effect to prove that the economy is down because of energy.

One may think that the government is responsible for the current energy problem. That is almost completely inaccurate. In most cases, it is out of the government’s hand to control the energy they get.   climate and carbon connections of the current crisis or of the global economy for that matter. Nor are them short-lived circumstantial relationships. They are built into the fabric of the current political economy.” This states that the problem is within the structure of the economy. The government has no control to change the energy as it is based on climate mostly. Since we use mostly non-renewable sources, climate plays a major role. As climate is not in our hands, it is a matter of luck. The government can only do one thing if they want to change this; restart. The government can remaster the economy so it is all renewable energy, but they would have to restart. However, that is not an option for the United States. The United States’ economy is so far developed that if they restart, they lose their position. The position outweighs the energy crisis in the eyes of most, which includes government officials. This leaves a matter of luck into our energy issue. This means that a part of what makes our economy today is pure luck.

Future Question: How does government decisions reguarding trade involve the economy?
