The people of the LGBT community have faced discrimination and harassment for years, but it is undeniably bad for the teens going through this experience. There are many struggles for teens in the LGBT community and these problems need to be addressed.
The high school system in this day and age are unbearable for some kids and it shouldn’t be. Kids are being harassed and bullied so much that they will, in some cases, self-harm or even commit suicide. In fact, studies have shown that the teens of the LGBT community are much more likely to suffer harassment and to have a very low level of happiness. That is an unacceptable way to live. “Gay, lesbian, and bisexual youth are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual counterparts.” This quote tells that even though the LGBT community has been given laws to protect them, people will still drive people to the breaking point for a good laugh.
Teens in general, are more likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol because of what happens with their prefrontal cortex, but “Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth are more than twice as likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol.” This is mainly because these children want an escape and feel that drugs and alcohol or hurting themselves is the only way out. As a result of the drugs and alcohol or self-harm, kids may not be as focused in class and fall behind in school, also, sometimes if the kid has bullies in their class that constant fear can keep them from focusing on the class content.
I found the blog post on the topic quite intriguing. I think this is a great topic because I think people really don't talk about the issue in schools, but I think it is becoming more acceptable in the world. I was really surprised at how teenagers of the LGBT community are affected due to the harsh comments. I think it is really shameful to think that there are people who harass others for their own enjoyment. I think you made a good analysis and argument, but it would become better if you could bold your argument and state the resource for reliability.
